2025 CVSA Roadcheck – Are You Ready?

Is your fleet ready for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance International Roadcheck this May?

cvsa roadcheck 2025

Local law enforcement will be inspecting commercial trucks during the 2025 CVSA Roadcheck 3-day event, scheduled for May 13-15, to ensure and verify regulatory compliance. This high-visibility, high-volume event takes place every year across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

In addition to the standard 37-point safety inspection, the CVSA selects specific focal points for both the vehicle and the driver. For 2025, they will be focused on:

  • Drive HOS (hours of service)
  • Tires

Driver Evaluation

Hours-of-service (HOS) is a regulation that is in place for the safety of both the driver as well as those sharing the road. Drivers must document drive and break time accurately in their log – either using a digital system or an approved logbook. Failure to record and keep an accurate log or falsifying reports is an immediate out-of-service violation.

In addition to a detailed log review, inspectors will check all driver documents, including:

  • Licenses
  • Medical certifications
  • Skill performance certificates (when applicable)
  • Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse status (in the U.S.) as well an impairment evaluation

Inspectors have been trained and will be vigilant in their inspection and detection of drivers in violation. Any infraction during this portion of the inspection could cause the driver to be restricted from operating their vehicle.

Tire Inspection

During the vehicle inspection, CVSA-certified inspectors will be paying close attention to all truck and trailer tires. Common tire violations they will be looking for are:

Steer tires: less than 4/32″
All other tires: less than 2/32″

Tires that are flat, underinflated, or significantly overinflated

Sidewall cuts, bulges, exposed cords, or embedded objects

Tires that rub against brake components, frame, or suspension parts

Regrooved tires are not permitted in steer positions unless labeled accordingly

Tires of different sizes or types on the same axle

A simple issue that can lead to slow leaks and tire failure

Be Prepared

Don’t stress about how your truck or fleet will fare during the 2025 CVSA Roadcheck. Be sure all driver documentation is up-to-date and accurate, and the Driver portion of the inspection will run smoothly.

  1. Ensure all drivers have valid driver operating credentials for the vehicle they are driving (CDL-A, CDL-B)
  2. Ensure ELDs are accurate and synchronized for proper HOS recording
  3. Validate all drivers are in proper standing with DACH

Proactive planning and the right commercial tire partner can turn the tire compliance challenge into improved safety and reduced downtime. Have a professional Fleet Tire Inspection performed, checking tread depth, pressure calibration with gauges, and valve stem and cap functionality.
